No person is exempt from experiencing the storms of life, but there are those who live secure even when the rains come and the flood waters rise. The obvious warning in Jesus’ conclusion is the incredibly serious gravity of our choice about him.

Jesus teaches that there really are only two options in life (following Jesus or rejecting him), but he immediately clarifies that in the real world people aren’t neatly divided into two organized groups. Instead, the visible church includes both true and false Christian leaders and true and false followers of Jesus. Following Jesus on the narrow way requires discernment, and Jesus gives us the keys to discern effectively.
